Fernando is teh sexy

This flash possesses this wonderful combination of catchyness, humor and just plain strangeness that makes just irresistible to me. Not to mention the way it loops so seamlessly ensures that viewers will watch it in an almost hypnotic state over and over again. (This was in fact my experience, anyway - and can even be slightly dangerous if left unchecked for long periods of time :P.)

Overall, this is a flash that can be enjoyed again and again, as it just never seems to get old. Both the art and animation, as well as the song are quite funny and they really fit perfectly together.
I honestly hope to continue to see more music videos like this in the future.

Great work! (Loving the new Manwhore flash, btw) :D

thanks!

Getting Better!

To start with, I would like to say that this is much better than part 1. It seems like you address some of the weak spots in part one quite nicely. The improvement is really noticeable.

What I really find interesting about these flash, are how you mix Zelda sprites and backgrounds from Zelda games with your own graphic and visual ideas. I honestly think that this is something that can only be achieved by someone who has no prior experience with the games. I find it quite interesting being someone who has played these games before.

Though I can see that you're working on a plot, it still seems too unfinished to me. Why is Link collecting the Triforce? Why is the old man sending him on these missions? While there is an objective, it seems to lack motive. If I were you, I would try to unify the plot you have going here in part 3. :)

Overall, I'd say that your efforts are really paying off, as you are getting better at this. If you can develop a more stable plotline that the viewer can really get into, I think you could have something really sweet here. Especially as your skills continue to grow.
Keep working on this, man. :)

Fro responds:

Ah, your review gave me a great idea. Since the first one developed a very weak plot line then I should make a Generic Sprite Flash .5 to become before all of this stuff and explain why he's going on the mission, etc..

Thanks for the idea.

Honest Review & Score

Ah, I remember you showing me this flash a few months back, and I must say that you've came a long ways with it since I saw it last.
Seeing a Zelda-themed flash created by someone who knows little to nothing about the series does humor the Zelda nerd in me a bit. Yet, at the same time it's really quite interesting to see an original Zelda flash made from such a different perspective, if you will.
The movement of the sprites seemed to be a little on the slow side, but it wasn't too annoying. If you played the games, you'd see that he moves at something closer to a running pace, opposed to walking. Speeding up the characters a little bit might make it more exciting. Also, at the beginning, when he's leaving the house, try and make the door and edge of the house the very edge of the screen opposed to having that patch of green there.
I enjoyed your choice in audio throughout this flash. Each song really matched the vibe of what was happening. But on the other hand, the audio really didn't seem "unified" to me. SoK's metal temple mix really clashed with the 8-bit Zelda music, despite both being cool in their own way. On your next effort, I would stick to all 8-bit music, preferably all from the same game, too. This would give it a much more unified feel.
At first, I wasn't really expecting much of a story, and I didn't see much of one until the end. Link running around a dungeon wasn't all too interesting, but once he ran into that orange dude, things seemed to pick up a bit. That leading up to the cliffhanger at the end was actually pretty cool.
Oh, and one other piece of advice. That scene after he talked to the old man about the Triforce, when Link was traveling to the dungeon. I would have him traveling through some overworld areas, and maybe start developing the plot some more before he makes it to the dungeon, opposed to just having a boring scene of him traveling from one point on the map to the next. That would make this longer and more interesting.
Overall, not a bad spite flash, Corky. You're getting better, man, keep it up.

Fro responds:

Alright, I didn't know he moved faster than that so that's something I'll keep in mind. I'm still going to have him walk in the "calm" situations and more of a faster pace when fighting.

I'll have to show you my newest one here sometime and you can tell me if the music matches up because I have another one of SoK's songs and 8-bit mixed. I'm better at fading now so I think it may work.

Thanks for the review and the tips.

Not a bad first...

Not a bad first submission at all. To start with, I'll say that I see some pretty good potential here. I don't think it would be an overstatement to say that your animation skills are above par for a beginner.
My only issue with this flash, all things considered, is the "tempo" of which the action moves at. It just seems too slow! The gun fighting and the music seemed to fit well together, but it was a bit spoiled by the lethargic-ness of the animation. Try adding some quick movements in the fight scenes and fast camera changes and stuff like that to raise the intensity level a bit.
I liked the heavy choice in music, it fit the mood of the flash, for sure. I would try experimenting with a more music video oriented flash. Something with the same type of action, but more built around the music.
Overall, you've got a great foundation to build on with this. Not half bad for a first submission, keep it up!

blackrichard responds:

Well thank you for this constructive review ^^!

I know that I made mistakes and I haven't thought about making parts faster.

I'm starting to make another video of the song "Skeleton Dance" from Arch Enemy, so you'd be please to check on this one too when I finish it!

Thank you and sorry for my "not so bad" english...I'm from Quebec in Canada..I speak french :P

Review

This movie contained some really strong points, yet it seems so very unfinished. The little snowflake menu and the text graphics were a nice touch on the one hand, but the video quality leaves something to be desired, IMO. The camera work was really well done, but higher quality video would take this to a new level entirely.
The music was really probably the strongest point in this piece. You did a great job choosing a song to match the "epic" atmosphere you were trying to convey through the plot and dialogue of the movie. It really gave it a suspenseful yet silly feel at the same time. Nicely done there.
Oh, and you've got to synch those voices, man. >.<
Though there really isn't too much explained as to why this battle is going on, it is still quite interesting. I would suggest having a voice-over (you know, the classic movie trailer voice) describing some of the previous events that let up to that moment in the movie. It would really get the viewer more involved in what's going on.
As far as humor goes, there was certainly some present. I got a chuckle or two though some of the jokes were a bit on the corny side. :P
Overall, you've got some good potential here. Keep working on polishing it up and maybe add some more in-depth plot. I really see a nice series in the works, if you work at it. :D

Fro responds:

Great ideas. I like some of them and will use some of them for sure in the future.

Thanks for the great review.

Not Bad!

Sketchy fbf style movies like this have always been a favorite of mine, I find them to be quite imaginative and random! You're animation is fairly solid. The scene where the guy's hand turned into a gatling gun really impressed me, my favorite part of the flash for sure. :D
At first I didn't like the predominant use of a single color, but the more I think about it the more it seemed to unify the whole flash.
A fairly interesting choice in song. You did a nice job matching the pace of the flash with the beat of the song, something that I find quite important in a flash that doesn't rely on things like dialogue and a story to keep the viewer's interest.
Most of the humor in this flash came as a result of the way the flash mingled with the song. The dude in the beginning of the flash saying "loco" made me laugh. Though I didn't find humor to be a really prominent aspect of this flash, there was still a bit sprinkled here and there to make you laugh. Overall, I'd say you accomplished what you set out to do with this flash, and it looked really fun to make. ^^ I enjoyed watching, keep up the good work!

these long and juicy reviews always make my day like that

:O omg!

Bahamut, you got pwn'd! Who would have known that just a typical day of statwhoring could lead to such catastrophe?! lol
To be honest, I'd say that watching you get beaten by a giant, spiked gauntlet made me laugh a bit TOO hard. I found it amusing how you managed to squeeze in: "or maybe it's the laptop!" whilst getting the life whacked out of you. lmao
Overall, I enjoyed the flash. It was just about what I expected from you animation-wise, and it made me "lol". :)
Good job!

PS> Did I ever mention that I <3 your voice? :P

kinggila responds:

No, but you have now. :)

Oh, and I'm UOTD on NG Log today, lol.

Great

Thank goodness, something new from chluaid! :D Let me just say that I absolutely love your shorts. Your ideas are always very humorous and pack a great punch.
What can I say about the art and animation? Both were flawless, par usual. I truly love your work, each of your flash is like getting a tiny little glimpse into your imagination, which is so rich and original.
You also have quite the talent for voice acting. Your voice is projected very well and has a very vibrant, animated sound. It really fit the bill of a drunken santa perfectly! :P
Thanks so much for the wonderful holiday flash! Truly loved it, it has really put me in the Christmas spirit! XP

chluaid responds:

hey man thanks for the review, glad you liked the animation.. personally I'd like to have put more into the animation itself but just didn't have the time. Maybe next year I can start a bit earlier and make something with a bit more substance :D
Thanks again!

Amusing

This was actually much better than I was expecting. For the simplicity of the drawings and lack of a background the animation was deceptively good.
You did a great job of taking a simple idea and a simple art style and making it worth watching. It just goes to show that animations don't necessarily need to be big and elaborate to be good.
I enjoyed watching this, it gave me a genuine laugh. Please keep the shorts coming! :)

Ninja-Walrus responds:

Thanks a lot! Your review is greatly appreciated. =)

wtf?

When the fuck was it your birthday and why didn't I know about it?!
And don't say it's because I'm never online anymore, because that's not true. >:(

Happy super-belated birthday, yoshi. How old are you now, 11? lolol
