You are really excellent at making these NG-themed informational flashes, Cyberdevil, and this no exception. The only thing I could think of to add would be some sound effects, like a click when your cursor hovers over something clickable, for example. Then again, since the theme is the Newgrounds BBS, maybe it's perfect the way it is. :) The only real issue I have is gandhi winning both rookie of the year and worst poster. Wut? Also, bring Bahamut back for 2014! :P

Thanks for the buttload of easy medals! <3 Off to try and find some of those secrets now...

Cyberdevil responds:

I actually added sound effects to the main menu and follow buttons, but the ones on the main menu don't play for some reason and I forgot to find out why. As for a sound playing on anything clickable, that seems like an interesting idea... it's easy to assign sounds to specific buttons, but having one sound automatically apply for all buttons? Would be cool if that's possible to code. lol yeah, five awards and an additional two second places, most definitely most overrated users of the year. :D

Good luck, most of them just require some clicking around. Thanks for the review (which seems to be a rarity with you!); glad you liked it!

Cool idea for a quiz game. Being a big Metallica fan I really enjoyed this. I don't know if there's an end to it, or if you're supposed to go through all 38, but I stopped playing after the 10th question or so. (I got 9 of 10 correct!) I honestly found that listening to the rhythm guitar in the background made it much easier to identify the song the solo belongs to. :P The only beef I have is that in the 10 or so questions I went though there were two repeats (Fade to Black and To Live is to Die) that's something that needs to be fixed, especially if the game doesn't end until you've gone through all 38 solos (that basically makes an already long quiz ridiculous.) A good start, though!

Thanks ;)

Constructive Review

I enjoyed playing around with this, and I'll say first that it has potential, but it was a bit limited and simplistic in some areas .
Your drawings were fairly good, but I would try adding some color and making the mounted toms and hi hat/cymbal stands a bit more 3D.
As far as audio goes, everything was spot on. The sounds were crisp, clean and very responsive when clicked. It may seem kind of boring to some, but maybe add a metronome option the player can turn on/off to use while playing. Also, having an array of guitar/bass riffs from all different types of music to play along with would make this game more fun and take it to a whole new level, IMO.
The one major flaw this has is the fact you play with the mouse. This makes it impossible to keep an interesting beat! Using the keyboard would allow use of the hi hat/ride cymbal with the bass snare and tom drums simultaneously as one would when playing on a real drum kit.
Overall, I'd say that you have a good start. I really do see some good potential here. Please take some of my ideas/criticisms into consideration and keep working on this, I would love to see another version!

Wow, a metronome is a great idea. I would definately make the keyboard activate the drums if I knew how! Thanks for the great review!

Cool Beans

When I first checked this out, I was expecting some boring wall of text informing me how I can become a better user. But in reality, it wasn't that at all, it was really more of a quiz/personality-type game than a guide, IMO. :P
For starters, I must give you props on the graphics. The title, "Newgrounds Helpful Guide" on the opening screen really caught my eye in all it's spiffyness, very cool and professional looking. :) Besides that, well, everything was very bight, colorful and Newgrounds themed, as a flash about Newgrounds probably should be. :P Overall, very good job in the graphics department.
The songs you chose were pretty cool, though they did tend to get a bit much after a while...Which leads me to my next comment, which is nice job adding a mute option. It may seem simple, but so many submissions tend to skip out on it, -it's a nice feature to have. :) The only thing I could suggest with the audio, would be to have like 5 or so songs available to listen to and have a little jukebox type thing that allows you to toggle through the songs so you can choose what type of music you want to listen to. I'm not sure how hard that would be to make, though...Just a thought. ;)
As a whole, you guys did a nice job with this. The graphics were all quite nice and there was plenty of varying questions. Congrats on the award. :D

Oh, and BTW, my honest-to-god score was a 35. MOD PLOX loll

Thanks man.

Loved It!

I really wasn't expecting anything much at fist glance, but I must admit, I found playing this game to be rather enjoyable! :D Everything about it was as simple as can be, but the controls were very smooth and responsive and maneuvering around the obstacles was fairly easy, yet just challenging enough to be fun. Adding power-ups like "invincibility" and "nuke" were also great ideas.
Your choice in music was quite good, IMO. I loved that guitar solo bit; it was very fun to listen to, didn't get old, and it fit the pace of the game well.
Overall you did a great job with this simple game. Very nice job for your first, keep it up! :D

ARROWZ responds:

Thanks. You can PM me if you want the mp3 of that song. I'll keep working at designing and come out with another game maybe sometime soon.

Good!

Nice, this was a good soundboard. The picture of Abe in the background was simple, yet it was all that was needed here. The buttons were well-made. With something like a soundboard having good graphics and a good presentation like this did goes a long way as there is usually no animation. This really delivered in that department.
The audio quality was very good and the phrases chosen were funny. Being a Simpson's fan myself, I really enjoyed re-visiting some of grandpa's most loveable moments. :P
My only idea for this would be to expand it. Make sections for all the main characters in the show and have a selection screen for each character right when you open the flash. That would really bring this form good to great.
Overall you did a nice job on this. It's everything a good soundboard should be. Good work!

Really Solid

I really enjoyed playing around in this. I liked how the directions were presented to you right when you started the game. The way the text box faded out was pretty sweet, too. Nice touch there. Overall, everything was presented in a way which made it easy to understand, even though there's a lot of different options in this game.
The biggest thing with me when it comes to a scene creator like this is options, and this had plenty of them. Lots of different weapons and backgrounds equals tons of different combinations, making the game much more enjoyable.
The audio was of good quality. The songs were pretty nifty. Being able to select between 3 songs/mute was a great feature.
Overall this is a solid scene creator game. Everything's very well explained, easy to navigate and use. I couldn't find anything that was overlooked in this. It looks like you really put some hard work into it. Good job!

Lol, I did put over 300 hours on this game. One of the things I did work a lot on was the user interface, I made sketches of it in about 1 month. I wanted it to be powerful, but still easy to use. Glad you found it easy to use. Thanks for your review!

Very Helpful

This was a solid tutorial, lots of good content. It may not have had all the bells and whistles that you'll see in some other tutorials, but the content was just as good, if not better and that's all that matters. :P
You really did a good job of taking someone who wants to learn how to animate sprites by the hand and showing them the step-by-step process of how its done. A lot of tutorials I've looked at skip out on certain steps, or explain things in a way that is a bit "hazy" but you managed to avoid that weakness. I enjoy writing walkthroughs for video games, so I know a good explanation when I see it! XP
The only tiny little criticism I have is with the audio. There is none! You should slap a good, catchy looping song in this thing and it will really be complete. :)
Overall, this was an above average tutorial for its content alone. You did a great job on this. Good work!

Swizardv2 responds:

Thanks for the compliment :D. I know I should add audio, but just with a mute button for people who want it. This tutorial could help so many flash newbs with their spriting xD. Cool that you write walktroughs for games, I don't have the patience for that :P
